SAFE TRIP ADVISOR

Heart attack is one of the most frequent diseases of the population of the so-called “developed world”, and it can just happen out of nowhere.

Join us in this life-saving endeavour and help provide “holiday-makers” or business travelers at cardiac risk, heart-attack patients who still want to enjoy life, their family and friends, a web-based platform (service and app) to select “safe” regions of travels.

The Stent – Save a Life! future SafeTripAdvisor website will provide updated information relative to the intended region(s) of travel, whether for pleasure or business. In order to provide such a critical service, Stent – Save a Life!, a not-for-profit association is aiming to raise funds.

Let’s make a difference together – Act now and build a global STEMI network

During the first year, we determined the main barriers that exist in the management of STEMI patients in our country. The most significant barrier is our health system that is organized around three main providers, which is highly fragmented with a low integration between parties. In this context, we decided to choose a model formed by private or public centers with the objective of developing door-to-balloon programs in each one. Learn more...

Christoph Kurt Naber, Germany
Director, Department of Cardiology and Angiology, Contilia
Heart and Vascular Center Elisabeth-Krankenhaus, Essen

During the seven years of Stent for Life Initiative’s existence, the SFL Mission has remained the same:
Reduce the mortality and morbidity of patients suffering from acute coronary syndromes (ACS) by supporting the implementation of European Clinical Practice Guidelines on Myocardial Revascularization at national and regional levels.

We have accomplished a lot – today patients from 21 countries in Europe, Asia, Africa and South America benefit from SFL programs. In partnership with hospitals, payers, governments and industry partners, SFL helps to create healthcare models that can deliver more efficient and improved care to ACS patients while maintaining or reducing costs.

We are pleased to announce that Dr. Christoph K. Naber has been appointed Stent for Life Initiative Chairman for the years 2016 – 2018. Dr. Naber is an active member of the PCR family. He is the course-co-director of EuroPCR and PCR London Valves, and course-director of AsiaPCR. He has served as a member of the executive board of the European Association of Percutaneous Cardiovascular Interventions (EAPCI) of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC), and is a member of the editorial boards of EuroIntervention and AsiaIntervention. Dr. Christoph Naber is a past-chairman of the German Working Group of Interventional Cardiology (AGIK/DGK).

We are very proud that the SFL activities’ impact on healthcare can be validated by clinical and economic evidence. To measure the SFL’s impact on STEMI patients’ access to PPCI, the third in a row Stent for Life ACS market survey will be initiated this year under the leadership of Christoph K. Naber. The ESC member and affiliate member countries will be invited to collect data on reperfusion treatment by using a self-administered questionnaire, and provide descriptive analysis of the type of reperfusion utilization, time delays, pharmacotherapy and medical device use at a national level.

Join us in wishing Christoph K. Naber all the best and much success in leading the Stent for Life Initiative!

In 2016, the Belarusian Scientific Society of Cardiologists and the Belarusian Society of Endovascular Surgery and Interventional Cardiology have initiated the process of joining the European initiative Stent Save a Life. The goal – to improve the quality of interventional care for patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) and the use of best European practices in our daily work.

ABOUT US

OVERVIEW

OUR MISSION

The Stent – Save a Life! global initiative aims to improve access to guideline complying therapy and the lifesaving indication of primary percutaneous coronary intervention (p-PCI), thereby reducing mortality and morbidity in patients suffering from acute myocardial infarction (AMI). To reduce mortality and morbidity of patients with acute myocardial infarction by granting access to guideline coherent, life-saving therapy and primary percutaneous coronary intervention.

OUR PURPOSE

The Stent – Save a Life! global initiative is a unique platform for interventional cardiologists, government representatives, industry partners, patient groups along with patients themselves, to work together to help shape health care systems and medical practices as well as ensure that all ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) patients have equal access to guideline complying therapy and, wherever possible, to the lifesaving indication of p-PCI.

OUR AIMS

The Stent – Save a Life! global initiative has two key objectives to be accomplished:

  1. Define the regions and countries with an unmet medical need in the optimal treatment of AMI
  2. Implement an action program to increase patient access to guideline complying therapy and to p-PCI where indicated

The purpose of the Stent – Save a Life! Initiative is to:

  • Support the implementation of current guidelines on management of acute myocardial infarction
  • Help identify specific barriers to the implementation of guidelines for these patients in the regional healthcare systems
  • Define actions to make sure that, as many STEMI patients as possible, finally gain access to guideline complying therapy and to significantly increase the availability of p-PCI

The Stent – Save a Life! global initiative has two key objectives to be accomplished:

  1. Define the regions and countries with an unmet medical need in the optimal treatment of AMI
  2. Implement an action program to increase patient access to guideline complying therapy and to p-PCI where indicated

We are working to:

  • Significantly decrease the rates of patients suffering from an AMI with no access to guideline complying treatment
  • Offer a 24/7 STEMI service at medical facilities to fully cover the regional needs
  • Increase the use of p-PCI among all STEMI patients wherever possible

JAN PIEK

Chairman of the Board

Previously a Stent – Save a Life! Ambassador – with a very active role in different regions of the world – Prof Jan Piek accepted to take over the role of Stent – Save a Life! Managing Director of the Heart Centre of the Academic Medical Centre in Amsterdam (The Netherlands) between 2008 and 2019, Prof Jan Piek is now leading the Acute Cardiac Care department of the newly created Amsterdam University Medical Centre. His well-acknowledged experience led him to be a reviewer of the ESC guidelines and protocols on myocardial revascularisation and is also much sought out in the national public affairs like in the medical industry.

WILLIAM WIJNS

Chairman of the Advisory Board

What is so fascinating with Stent – Save a Life! is that anyone who is exposed to the project feels compelled to engage in it. Providing timely reperfusion therapy to patients suffering from acute CAD is simply the right thing to do. Most importantly, for us to prompt the project is enough. From there, stakeholders are taking ownership. Stent – Save a Life! is everything but a top down project, which guarantees durability and long term success.

OUR LEGACY

Based on needs assessment, the Stent for Life Initiative was launched by the coalition of the European Association of Percutaneous Cardiovascular Interventions (EAPCI), a registered branch of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC), and EuroPCR, at the EAPCI General Assembly, during the ESC Annual Congress in 2009, in Barcelona.
