There is no doubt that the original Stent for Life initiative had a huge, positive impact on morbidity and mortality in patients with STEMI in Europe. With the global Stent – Save a Life! (SSL) initiative comes the continued spread of the mission to other regions, particularly countries with the greatest healthcare needs.

The Stent – Save a Life! community is such a family united by its ambition to improve STEMI care on a global scale. The end of the year is therefore an appropriate moment to reflect on family affairs and look back on 2021.

Stent-Save a Life conducted an international survey to investigate the reduction rate of PPCI during the COVID-19 outbreak in the beginning of 2020 in countries participating in the SSL global initiative in comparison with the same period in 2019.

2020
As a result of the EuroPCR 2020 cancellation due to the Covid-19 global pandemic, the Stent – Save a Life! global initiative hosted its annual event a few weeks later than usual, on July 3rd, albeit in a virtual and shorter format.
Dr Jorge Belardi became the first recipient of the Stent – Save a Life! Gold Medal awarded by the global initiative’s chairman during the SSL Virtual Forum on July 3rd 2020.
Over the last few weeks, the same alarming message has been echoing all around the world as the coronavirus outbreak has been spreading relentlessly across the continents: “Where have the cardiac patients gone?”
