Title:Managing Complex STEMI Patients in Diverse Healthcare Systems: Adapting Best Practices to Local Realities

Stent Save a Life at EuroPCR 2025

Session objective:

The Stent – Save a Life! session at EuroPCR 2025 aims to bring together interventional cardiologists and healthcare leaders from across the globe to address the complexities of treating ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI) patients across diverse healthcare settings. The session will explore the adaptation of evidence-based reperfusion strategies to regions with varying levels of infrastructure, access, and resources, with a focus on real-world challenges such as late presentation, thrombus burden, cardiogenic shock, and limited access to PCI-capable centers. Through case-based discussions and cross-continental commentaries, the session will provide attendees with practical insights into how best practices can be tailored to local conditions while remaining aligned with international guidelines. Special emphasis will be placed on collaborative problem-solving and experience sharing, reflecting Stent – Save a Life!’s mission to improve timely access to life-saving reperfusion therapy for STEMI patients—particularly in low- and middle-income countries where over 80% of premature NCD-related deaths occur.

Session Brief:

Building on the legacy of previous Stent – Save a Life! Forums, this year’s session focuses on bridging the gap between guidelines and practice in the management of acute coronary syndromes—especially in under-resourced environments. Despite primary PCI being the gold standard for STEMI management, many regions continue to face critical barriers: delayed patient presentation, lack of PCI centers, high thrombus burden, and comorbidities that complicate intervention. This session will spotlight these issues through representative case presentations from Asia, Africa, Latin America, and Europe, followed by expert commentaries and audience engagement. Topics include: • Managing large thrombus burden in Asian settings • Strategies for late-presenting patients with no-reflow in African contexts • Handling cardiogenic shock at non-PCI centers in Latin America • Treating multivessel disease with STEMI in European practice Each segment is designed to highlight practical, regionally adapted solutions while anchoring discussions in global best practices and clinical evidence. This collaborative forum will provide a unique opportunity to: • Understand geographic-specific STEMI management challenges • Learn strategies for applying current guidelines in limited-resource settings Exchange knowledge and innovations across global networks
